Liverpool may potentially face the absence of left-back Andy Robertson at the onset of the Premier League title run-in, following his departure from the match against Northern Ireland on Tuesday night due to an ankle injury. Scotland’s captain, Robertson, is slated to undergo an evaluation upon returning to Liverpool, as confirmed by Scotland manager Steve Clarke after Robertson was compelled to leave the field during the first half of the 1-0 defeat.
Despite attempting to persist, Robertson was ultimately substituted shortly before his Liverpool teammate Conor Bradley netted the sole goal of the match at Hampden. Notably, Robertson had previously endured a spell on the sidelines lasting nearly three months earlier in the season, as a result of a shoulder injury sustained during a match in Spain amid the October international break.
His demeanor upon being replaced against Northern Ireland suggested his disappointment, particularly as Liverpool navigates a pivotal juncture in the season under the management of Jurgen Klopp, with the Euros looming a mere 11 weeks away. Manager Clarke expressed optimism that Robertson’s injury would not lead to an extended absence, stating, “He’s just come off the pitch, let the injury take its course. He’ll go back to his club and they’ll assess it and hopefully it’s not too serious.”
Liverpool’s forthcoming fixtures include a home clash against Brighton on Sunday, marking their return to Premier League action, preceding a matchup against title rivals Manchester City versus Arsenal later that afternoon. Subsequently, the Reds are scheduled to face Sheffield United at Anfield midweek, followed by an away fixture against Manchester United at Old Trafford, who eliminated Klopp’s side from the FA Cup earlier this month.
