Liverpool have to pay £8.5 million for this 39-year-old manager target

The disclosed amount for activating Sporting manager Ruben Amorim’s release clause this summer has been revealed by David Ornstein.

Liverpool is considering several options to replace Jurgen Klopp, with Ruben Amorim being one of them. While Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso is seen as the frontrunner, Liverpool is keeping its options open in case Alonso chooses to stay with Leverkusen or move to Bayern Munich.

Amorim will mark four years at Sporting next month, having secured a league title in his debut season. Sporting is currently in contention for another league title this season, sitting just two points behind the leaders with a game in hand.

According to David Ornstein on The Athletic Football Podcast, activating the 39-year-old’s release clause would now require a fee exceeding £8.5 million.

“Ruben Amorim’s got a release clause in his contract. It was, I think a year ago when Chelsea spoke to him, up into the €20 millions. Now I understand it’s €10 million, which people might feel is low, especially if it was a player signing. But that is high for a managerial appointment, whether we like it or not,” he said.

The job the Reds have ahead of them in trying to replace Klopp is enormous. Thus, they must do so if it means shelling out a sizable sum for whoever they think would be the best to move them forward.
