Gary Neville has sent a warning to Liverpool and Arsenal over their Premier League title hopes.
Gary Neville emphasizes the importance of upcoming matches between title contenders, stressing that Liverpool and Arsenal can’t rely on other teams to secure the Premier League title. He acknowledges the significance of the clash between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield on March 10, as both teams are in top form and separated by just one point in the standings.
Following Manchester City’s convincing 3-1 victory over Manchester United, where Phil Foden starred with a brace, Neville highlights the need for Liverpool and Arsenal to capitalize on direct confrontations with City to strengthen their title aspirations.
While Arsenal currently sit five points behind Liverpool and four adrift of Manchester City, Neville underscores the significance of their upcoming fixture against Sheffield United. He suggests that reducing the gap with a win against Sheffield United is vital for Arsenal to remain in contention.
Neville’s assessment underscores the competitive nature of the Premier League title race and the pivotal role that head-to-head clashes will play in determining the eventual champion.
“City have got the most experience. All three have got something. This is where we’ll find out about all three of them. Can City do it again and get over the line? Can Arsenal do what they didn’t do last year? They completely fell away with ten games to go. This is that moment again.
“I always wanted to see Arsenal in the same position again, with City, to see how far they’ve developed. I think they have developed, with [William] Saliba and [Declan] Rice. They’re better than they were last year and have more power.
“I can’t wait for these next couple of games because we find out really what these teams are about. City are the barometer, that’s who they have to try and knock off the perch. That’s what you have to beat them – you can’t say ‘well City might drop points at that ground’ if you’re not beating them yourself. You have to beat them if you’re Liverpool and Arsenal.”
