Leeds United is considering bringing Kalvin Phillips back to Elland Road if they secure an immediate return to the top-flight.
Phillips, who spent 12 years at his hometown club before moving to Manchester City for £42 million in 2022, had a difficult time at City, spending 18 months on the bench and falling out of the England squad.
After being loaned to West Ham in January, Leeds are now looking to give the 28-year-old midfielder an opportunity to revive his career. They believe City would be willing to negotiate a deal for around £30 million to offload him.
However, City’s interest in West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta could complicate matters, as they may want to include Phillips as part of the deal in the upcoming transfer window.Pep Guardiola, the manager of the city, holds a strong admiration for the Brazilian player, who possesses an £85m release clause.
Guardiola aims to utilize his midfield misfit as a means to partially cover a significant portion of the player’s asking price. However, it appears that City’s hopes are nothing more than wishful thoughts, considering Phillips’ unfortunate stint in London.
His time with the team has been nothing short of disastrous, with only three starts to his name. It all began with a debut blunder that resulted in a conceded goal, and things only worsened when he received a red card in the following match.
