Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his belief that it would benefit Trent Alexander-Arnold to have a new manager and mentioned that the right-back will be a player “people talk about in 40 years”.
Klopp, who is set to depart from the Reds at the conclusion of the season, handed Alexander-Arnold his first-team debut in October 2016 shortly after the Anfield club’s academy product turned 18.
The 25-year-old has accumulated over 300 appearances for the Reds and secured victories in the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Club World Cup, and Super Cup.
Alexander-Arnold, who was appointed vice-captain by Klopp last summer, has also evolved into a player who frequently transitions into midfield for Liverpool due to his creative prowess.
“He has been an exceptional player from day one,” Klopp stated ahead of Liverpool’s Merseyside derby against Everton on Wednesday. “An exceptional talent and he has transformed into a world-class footballer.
“It is uncommon as a manager to be part of a journey for such an extended period. Trent has never experienced a different manager, so it will be beneficial for him to receive new influences in the future. Nonetheless, he can be content with the progress he has achieved.”
Alexander-Arnold netted a remarkable free-kick – adding another dimension to his skill set – in Liverpool’s 3-1 triumph over Fulham on Sunday as Klopp’s squad kept their Premier League title aspirations very much alive.
“I have nothing but praise for Trent and his growth,” Klopp remarked. “He is one of those narratives that not many clubs can script, but he is someone who will be remembered in 20, 30, and 40 years.”
