Premier League: OIlie Watkins, Pascal Gross, Kieran Trippier – 10 assists
The race for the Premier League’s Playmaker of the Season award is a tight one with three players tied at the top on 10 assists.
Kieran Trippier has reached double figures for assists for the first time and the Newcastle right-back will have his sights set on breaking Trent Alexander-Arnold’s single-season record for a defender (13), set in 2019/20.
Brighton’s Pascal Gross continues to be one of the most under-appreciated footballers in the division and has produced the most assists of his career to date, as has Ollie Watkins who is firing Aston Villa’ push for a top-four finish.
Watkins has been the most prolific player in the Premier League this season, directly contributing to more goals than any other player. He has achieved a career-high of 16 goals.
La Liga: Alex Baena – 9 assists
Alex Baena’s impressive season has led to him receiving international recognition, as the 22-year-old Villarreal winger made his debut for Spain by scoring a goal against Cyprus in September.
Baena has been the top playmaker in La Liga this season, providing nine assists for Villarreal. His contributions have been crucial in keeping the team’s European qualification hopes alive after a difficult start to the season. Additionally, he played a key role in Villarreal’s journey to the Europa League’s last 16 by providing three assists.
Serie A: Olivier Giroud – 8 assists
Olivier Giroud is proving to be a valuable asset for AC Milan as he ages gracefully, showcasing his skills with 12 goals and eight assists in the 2023/24 season.
His impressive performance has helped keep the club at the top of the standings in the race for Champions League qualification.
Despite being 37 years old, the French striker maintains a high level of influence on the pitch, contributing to goals every 92.6 minutes in Serie A.
With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, there is interest from MLS side Los Angeles FC in securing his services.
Ligue 1: Ousmane Dembele, Aubameyang – 7 assists
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a former player for Arsenal and Chelsea, has been excelling in the later stages of his career at Marseille.
Since joining the team last summer, the 34-year-old has shown a resurgence in form, scoring 23 goals and providing nine assists across all competitions.
In Ligue 1, he has scored seven goals, which is tied for the highest total with Ousmane Dembele of Paris Saint-Germain.
Meanwhile, Ousmane Dembele has been struggling to score goals since his move from Barcelona but has been a key provider for Kylian Mbappe and the rest of the team in Luis Enrique’s attacking lineup.
Bundesliga: Leroy Sane, Alejandro Grimaldo – 11 assists
Alejandro Grimaldo has had an exceptional season as a left-back for Leverkusen, matching Sane’s impressive performance. Since joining from Benfica on a free transfer last summer, the 29-year-old has scored nine goals and provided 11 assists in 26 league matches under the management of fellow Spaniard Xabi Alonso at the BayArena.
