Kenny Dalglish has identified a potential stumbling block in Liverpool’s quest for the Premier League title this season – and surprisingly, it’s not coming from the usual suspects of Manchester City or Arsenal.
Liverpool, eager to reclaim the top division crown after a four-year wait, have been in fine form, leading the pack with 60 points from 26 games. However, their margin at the top is razor-thin, with Manchester City nipping at their heels just a point behind, followed closely by Arsenal.
While the Reds have shown resilience with only two defeats so far, injuries have posed a significant challenge. Nonetheless, Jurgen Klopp’s side has displayed remarkable depth, fielding a youthful lineup featuring several academy graduates who have risen to the occasion.
The recent Carabao Cup triumph against Chelsea, where Liverpool showcased their burgeoning talent, underscores their ability to navigate through adversity. However, Dalglish points to the toll that injuries and the demanding fixture schedule could take on the squad, particularly the pressure on young shoulders to maintain consistency.
With emerging talents like Lewis Koumas making their mark on debut and Jayden Danns showcasing his potential with vital goals, Liverpool’s ability to manage injuries and sustain performance levels amidst a packed fixture list will be crucial in their title bid, according to Dalglish.
The Liverpool legend told the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast: “The biggest threat to Liverpool could be injuries.
“For me, Arsenal have got to go to Manchester and play Man City, which is a big game.
“I don’t know why people think Arsenal haven’t got a vested interest and a threat. Of course they’re a threat. They’re a threat because they deserve to be a threat.
“There is a lot of water still to pass under the bridge, and if Arsenal are starting to get their players back that have been injured, and [Liverpool] are starting to lose ours, then it could be vital.
“Man City obviously will be right in the thick of it.
“It’s fantastic that we’ve got three teams as good, and as great quality, as those three challenging for position and the title. You don’t get that in too many countries, do you?”
Liverpool’s next Premier League outing is slated for Saturday as they hit the road to face Nottingham Forest. Meanwhile, City will be gearing up for the highly anticipated Manchester derby on Sunday against Manchester United. As for Arsenal, they are set to contest an away fixture against the league’s bottom-placed Sheffield United on Monday.
