Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has received a four-year suspension for doping, as decreed by Italy’s anti-doping tribunal.
Multiple sources within Italy, such as Repubblica and Sky Sport Italia, have confirmed that the anti-doping tribunal has acceded to requests from the FIGC Prosecutor, resulting in the suspension of the French midfielder for a duration of four years.
Pogba’s doping violation stemmed from a failed test conducted on August 20, 2023, subsequent to the inaugural Serie A match of the season featuring Juventus and Udinese, during which he remained on the bench throughout.
The presence of DHEA, a substance known to elevate testosterone levels, was detected in Pogba’s system, with a subsequent sample reaffirming the initial findings in October.
Following the initiation of the doping investigation, Pogba was subject to provisional suspension in September 2023, thereby abstaining from participation in training sessions alongside his Juventus counterparts. Furthermore, his remuneration was reduced to approximately €2,400 per month, in accordance with the terms outlined in the collective agreement between clubs and the footballers’ association.
Having rejoined Juventus on a free transfer from Manchester United in 2022, the 2018 France World Cup victor only managed to make 12 appearances across all competitions during his second tenure at the Allianz Stadium.
Pogba retains the option to contest the ruling issued by the anti-doping tribunal through the appeals process.
