According to a report in Tuttosport newspaper, Juventus is strategically positioning itself to outmaneuver Premier League clubs vying for the acquisition of Teun Koopmeiners. The Italian club aims to entice the Dutch midfielder with the promise of a pivotal role within the team structure, alongside the prospect of participating in the Club World Cup slated for the following year.
Koopmeiners has disclosed his desire for a transfer from Atalanta at the conclusion of the season, thereby confirming the interest expressed by Juventus as well as several Premier League outfits. La Gazzetta dello Sport, in its printed edition on Friday, specifies Liverpool’s involvement in the pursuit of the midfielder, with Manchester United and Tottenham also demonstrating keen interest.
The pursuit of Koopmeiners by these English clubs, however, may not dampen Juventus’ hopes, as none of them are slated to participate in the 2025 Club World Cup, in contrast to Juventus. The absence of these English clubs in the prestigious tournament provides Juventus with a strategic advantage. Furthermore, Manchester City and Chelsea are scheduled to represent the Premier League in the USA, indicating their lack of interest in securing the services of the Atalanta midfielder.
As outlined by Tuttosport, Juventus is banking on the allure of competing in the Club World Cup as a persuasive factor for Koopmeiners to opt for the Bianconeri over a potential move to the Premier League during the summer transfer window.
Simultaneously, Juventus is poised to present Koopmeiners with the opportunity to assume a leadership role within the team, an aspect that might be subject to more competition in the English league. Additionally, by choosing Juventus, Koopmeiners would continue to reside in Italy, where he and his family have established their residence over the past three years.
Koopmeiners’ contract with Atalanta, set to expire in June 2027, comes with a valuation of €60 million.
