Jurgen Klopp expressed utmost satisfaction with Liverpool’s performance following their hard-fought 1-1 draw against Manchester City in the Premier League title race.
Despite conceding an early goal to John Stones in the 23rd minute, Liverpool showcased resilience and determination, swiftly responding with an equalizer. Alexis Mac Allister converted a penalty in the 50th minute after Darwin Nunez was brought down by City goalkeeper Ederson.
Buoyed by their leveling goal, Klopp’s side dominated proceedings, with Luis Diaz and Nunez coming close to securing a decisive lead. Jeremy Doku’s late attempt hitting the post for City heightened the tension, but Liverpool remained relentless in their pursuit. A late penalty appeal was waved away after Mac Allister was challenged by Doku, adding to the drama of the encounter
With the draw leaving Liverpool in second place on the table with 64 points, level with Arsenal on goal difference and one point behind City, Klopp emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum. He urged his team to capitalize on their performance as they strive not only for the Premier League title but also for success in multiple competitions in his final season as manager.
Klopp told reporters: “On the scale I rate football games there is no higher scale than playing the best football you can play against Man City, causing City the problems we caused them today.
“I was not here in the press conference but probably Pep [Guardiola] saw it as well, that this was a different game to other games we played against them. Very often when we won it was counter-attack, quick-thinking, shots from distance. How we played through the midfield today, that was some of the best moments of my coaching career, to be honest, that we are able to do that against them.
“You see a situation when Luis Diaz against [Kyle] Walker, who is officially the fastest [player] in the Premier League, I think they said that recently, and Rodri and he gets out of that. It’s absolutely incredible! So, the boys really wanted it, a really good performance, massive heart, sensational atmosphere, one point. Let’s keep going.”
