Last summer, OSC Lille valued Jonathan David (24) at 60 million euros. The Canadian was supposed to leave, but the starting price proved too high and he ended up staying at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
After scoring 15 goals in Ligue 1 last season, Lille appeared to have the right conditions in place to sign the striker, who has consistently attracted interest in recent windows. While Paulo Fonseca would have liked to keep his talisman, David’s form at the start of the season fell well short of expectations. Before the international break in November, David had scored just two goals in Ligue 1 and had lost his place in the starting XI to Yusuf Yazici.
Olivier Létang, president of Les Dogues, was convinced that a different version of David would return from the international break, and so it happened. After 22 games in Ligue 1, David now has 11 goals and 16 goals in 31 games across all competitions. In the five major European leagues in 2024, only Kylian Mbappé (10) has scored more goals than David (9). He is a born again striker.
His recovery comes at the right time.As was the case last season, sales are expected at the end of the current season. Several clubs will compete for the number 9 position in the coming months, with David’s form being most prominent in the shortlists. According to Téléfoot, Chelsea, Napoli and Milan would be interested in the Canadian representative. If David maintains his form until the end of the season, this big change will definitely happen.
