Liverpool’s experienced defender, Joel Matip (32), has communicated his intention to remain at the club despite his contract nearing its expiration this summer, as per reports from Sports Zone.
Presently, Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt stands as the sole club to have expressed tangible interest in acquiring the services of the German-born former Schalke 04 player, who boasts 27 international caps for Cameroon, his father’s homeland.
Matip’s involvement for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds has been limited this season, with just 14 appearances across all competitions. Klopp has often favored Frenchman Ibrahima Konaté (24) and youngster Jarell Quansah (21) as partners for the formidable Virgil van Dijk.
While Ligue 1 champions-elect Paris Saint-Germain have been previously linked with the Cameroonian, particularly due to former coach Thomas Tuchel’s admiration for the defender, Matip remains committed to Liverpool.
Since his arrival at Liverpool in the summer of 2016, Matip has amassed 201 appearances for the club, clinching prestigious honors including the Premier League and the Champions League.
