Jurgen Klopp said he is concerned about the condition of three of his Liverpool players in the wake of their FA Cup loss to Manchester United.
Klopp revealed that Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo all left the field with complaints after the Reds were beaten 4-3 in extra time in the quarter-final clash at Old Trafford. With the trio set to travel for international duty, the manager is worried about their fitness.
Klopp said to BBC Sport: “Now, the boys go on international duty. We hope they come back healthy. Lucho [Diaz] felt his groin, Darwin hamstring, Cody twisted his ankle. They play again in four or five days, it’s crazy. Hopefully we will finish the season in style.
He added: “The boys gave everything. Our decision making was not great. You have to accept the result. They deserve to go to the next round.”
Klopp already has plenty of injury concerns heading into the climax of the season. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Alisson Becker, Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip are among the names on a long list of absentees that the Anfield side have had to do without in recent weeks. Adding the three attacking players will only exacerbate their problems amid an intense battle for the Premier League title.
Klopp will hope his stars return in good shape after the international period. With Liverpool level on points with Arsenal at the top of the Premier League, the German cannot afford to lose any of his key players heading into the last 10 top-flight matches of the season.
