Inter Milan is in the process of negotiating a potentially lucrative sponsorship deal with Betsson Group, with reported annual earnings estimated at €30 million. However, the club faces hurdles due to existing Italian regulations.
As reported by several sources including La Gazzetta dello Sport, La Stampa, and Sportitalia, discussions between Inter and Betsson Group have progressed significantly, although regulatory constraints present potential challenges.
In Italy, football clubs are prohibited from being sponsored by betting companies, and Betsson Group includes StarCasinò Sport among its subsidiaries. While this brand has previously served as a shirt sponsor for Serie C team Messina, approval for a top-flight club remains uncertain.
Inter encountered sponsorship difficulties last season when Digitalbits failed to fulfill its contractual obligations, leading to Paramount+ assuming sponsorship responsibilities in the campaign’s final stages.
The club’s predicament is echoed across Serie A, as teams lament the restrictions imposed by the Dignity Decree. Enacted to curb the proliferation of gambling addiction within Italian society, the decree has deprived clubs of significant revenue streams by barring gambling companies from serving as shirt sponsors.
