Rasmus Hojlund has responded to reports of dissatisfaction among his Manchester United teammates following an interview he conducted with the YouTube channel “The United Stand,” which is known for its critical analysis of the club’s performances.
Earlier this month, media outlets in England reported that some Manchester United players had voiced their concerns to Hojlund after the Danish forward appeared on “The United Stand,” a channel predominantly followed by fans of the club, often known as the Red Devils. The channel frequently generates controversy but boasts a significant following among Manchester United supporters.
In the face of allegations that his interview with The United Stand had caused discontent among his teammates, Rasmus Hojlund denounced such claims as false. The 21-year-old forward, who had enjoyed a fruitful start to 2024 with seven goals in as many matches before sustaining a muscle injury in a 2-1 victory over Luton last month, defended his decision to engage with the media outlet.
During his time at Manchester United, Hojlund participated in an interview with The United Stand, discussing his adaptation to life in Manchester and his goal-scoring form. Following the interview, United We Stand magazine reported that some Manchester United players had approached Hojlund regarding his interaction with a channel “built on negativity and slaughtering players.”
Mark Goldbridge, the operator of The United Stand, dismissed the criticisms as stemming from “envy.” Hojlund has now refuted the allegations, describing them as inaccurate and devoid of truth.
Speaking to Tipsbladet earlier this month, Rasmus Hojlund stated, “I have not been informed of anything, so it is fake news. I haven’t read anything about it, but it’s certainly not true when I haven’t been informed that I can’t conduct an interview with any other fan media.”
In remarks made earlier this month, Mark Goldbridge asserted that the interview had been conducted in good faith and refuted suggestions that Hojlund had encountered issues with his Manchester United teammates.
Goldbridge said, “The key point is, Rasmus Hojlund knew who I was and The United Stand before coming to Manchester United. And I’ll tell you why. One, because he knew about The United Stand beforehand. Two, we’ve held press conferences for years. And if these players didn’t like it, then why didn’t they say something about it?
And third, most importantly, this interview was conducted directly between the club and the player. This interview was known to everyone at Man United, from top to bottom, and it took months to arrange. So, if these players didn’t want it to happen, they could have stopped it at any time.”
After a four-week hiatus from competitive action, Rasmus Hojlund returned to play and featured in Manchester United’s starting lineup against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals last Sunday. The Danish player played 71 minutes and made an impression as Manchester United secured a place in the FA Cup semi-finals with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Liverpool, with the decisive goal coming from Amad Diallo.
