Galatasaray, the renowned Turkish club, is reportedly considering a surprising transfer move for Ryan Gravenberch, who has recently lost his place in the midfield hierarchy at Liverpool.
According to a report by Turkish publication fotoMac, Gravenberch is a top priority for Galatasaray this summer and is viewed as a perfect midfield companion for former Arsenal player Lucas Torreira.
The report also indicates that Galatasaray had expressed interest in signing the Dutch midfielder last year, but were unable to compete with Liverpool’s offer.
Despite being just 21 years old, the Dutch player has failed to make the expected impression at Anfield, having only started in 10 league matches so far.
Unfortunately, an ankle injury during the Carabao Cup final couldn’t have come at a worse time, causing him to drop in the hierarchy behind Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo, in addition to regulars Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Gravenberch’s decision to establish himself on Merseyside nearly put his international career at risk. He declined an U21 call-up in October, but has since been pardoned by Oranje manager Ronald Koeman.
Gravenberch finds himself in a situation where both his current and potential future clubs are engaged in intense battles for the league title. With only six games remaining in both the Turkish Super League and the Premier League, the competition is fierce.
Galatasaray currently holds a two-point advantage over their arch-rivals Fenerbahce, while Liverpool sits in third place, trailing Manchester City by two points and narrowly behind Arsenal on goal difference.
As a player who has previously represented Ajax and Bayern Munich, Gravenberch will undoubtedly be eager to contribute to a successful conclusion of Jurgen Klopp’s era at Liverpool.
