Frank Lampard has withdrawn his candidacy for the position of head coach of the Canada national team.
The former Chelsea and Everton manager was unexpectedly considered for the role. However, after initial discussions, Lampard has concluded that the Canada job is not the suitable opportunity for his managerial comeback.
Lampard has been without a job since his temporary stint as Chelsea’s manager ended last season, and Canada had included him in the list of potential coaches to guide the national team in the 2026 World Cup, which they are co-hosting.
The ex-Chelsea midfielder was observed observing England’s training sessions prior to the friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium last month.
He expressed his desire to return to the world of management, but is willing to patiently wait for the right opportunity. As a result, Canada will need to redirect their attention elsewhere.
Currently, Canada has an interim head coach named Mauro Biello, who previously served as an assistant to John Herdman. Herdman resigned from his position last summer to assume the role of head coach at Toronto FC.
Lampard’s managerial career began with Derby County, where he led the team to the Championship play-offs. During his tenure as the permanent head coach of Chelsea, he achieved Champions League qualification and guided the team to the FA Cup final.
Lampard later ensured Everton’s safety in the Premier League before being dismissed last season. He concluded the season as interim manager at Chelsea.
