In a recent analysis, Luca Marchegiani, a former goalkeeper for Lazio, critically examines Juventus’ recent string of disappointing performances, highlighting observations on the demeanor of Bianconeri players, notably singling out their prominent forward, Federico Chiesa, as appearing “empty.”
The renowned Serie A club has managed to secure only one victory in their last nine league outings, amassing a mere seven points in the process. Consequently, they find themselves narrowly ahead of fourth-placed Bologna by just two points in the league standings.
The team’s latest setback occurred over the weekend in a 1-0 defeat against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico. Tonight, they are set to face Lazio once more in the initial leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals.
Reflecting on Juventus’ recent league defeat during an appearance on Sky Sport Italia, Luca Marchegiani remarked, “That match proved to be a strenuous one for Juve, yielding the most unfavorable outcome. They were on the brink of salvaging a point.”
Indeed, the decisive goal, scored by Adam Marusic, materialized with the very last touch of the game, facilitating Igor Tudor’s successful debut as Lazio’s coach.
Marchegiani further noted, “What is particularly perplexing is the evident lack of vigor exhibited by the team. Juventus once exemplified a distinct intensity, making it puzzling that the issue appears to be solely physical, especially given their relatively low match count. Even Chiesa, a key player, seems to lack his usual spark.”
Notably, Juventus’ exclusion from European competitions for the current season confines their participation to Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
Despite Chiesa’s commendable tally of seven goals in 25 Serie A appearances, his scoring prowess has notably waned, with only two goals registered thus far in 2024.
