Atalanta secured their place in the Coppa Italia final with a stunning comeback in injury time, with Ademola Lookman, the former Everton forward, finding the back of the net.
Lookman’s goal in the 94th minute, followed by Mario Pasalic’s strike in the 98th minute, sealed a 4-2 aggregate victory in their semi-final clash against Fiorentina.
Despite being 1-0 down from the first leg, Atalanta quickly leveled the score through Teun Koopmeiners. However, Fiorentina’s Lucas Martinez Quarta struck back after half-time, putting them in the lead. The tie was then leveled once again by Gianluca Scamacca’s impressive scissor kick goal.
In the 53rd minute, Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic received a straight red card for bringing down Scamacca, who was racing towards the goal.
With the aggregate score tied at 2-2 and extra time looming, Lookman, a substitute who honed his skills at Charlton Athletic’s academy, brilliantly finished with his left foot to put Atalanta within reach of the final. The goal underwent a lengthy video assistant referee check for offside before being confirmed.
As Fiorentina pushed forward with 10 men, they left gaps in their defense, allowing Pasalic to race through on goal and calmly chip the ball over Pietro Terracciano, securing a 4-1 victory on the night.
In the final, Atalanta will face Juventus, who secured their spot by overcoming Lazio with a 3-2 aggregate score.
