Forward Quincy Promes, formerly favored by Coach Ten Hag during his tenure at Ajax, has been sentenced to six years in prison for his involvement in a case related to the smuggling of over one ton of cocaine.
The Amsterdam court has issued a ruling regarding Quincy Promes. The 32-year-old forward has been sentenced to 6 years in prison for his involvement in smuggling 1,363 tons of cocaine. Quincy Promes was not the mastermind but played a guiding and facilitating role in this illicit drug trafficking activity. A large quantity of cocaine was concealed in a shipment of sea salt transported from Brazil. Two shipments of 650kg and 713kg respectively arrived in the Netherlands in January 2020. Consequently, Quincy Promes has been sentenced to 6 years in prison along with his cousin. The 32-year-old forward was not present in court as he is currently in Russia but has been informed of the verdict. Initially, the prosecution had sought a 9-year sentence for Promes, but the final judgment was reduced to 6 years.
Previously, the forward had been sentenced to 18 months in prison for assaulting his cousin at a family gathering. Quincy Promes currently plays for Spartak Moscow. Multiple sources confirm that he holds Russian citizenship. As Russia does not have an extradition treaty with the Netherlands, Promes remains safe in the former. In the past, Quincy Promes has been a well-known figure in Dutch football circles. After his youth development at Ajax, the 31-year-old forward has played for various clubs both domestically and internationally, including Twente, Go Ahead Eagles, Sevilla, Ajax, and currently Spartak Moscow. It was at Spartak Moscow where Promes achieved significant success, winning numerous prestigious titles such as the Russian Premier League, Russian Cup, and Russian Super Cup. In the Dutch national team, Quincy Promes has left a notable impression, scoring 7 goals in over 50 appearances from 2014 to 2021. In the current season, Promes has scored 8 goals in 21 appearances for Spartak Moscow.
