In a surprising turn of events, Opta’s Super Computer has indicated that Manchester City may not secure their fourth consecutive Premier League title. Instead, the current favorites to claim the ultimate prize at the end of the season are Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s team managed to move two points ahead at the top of the table after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brighton at Anfield on Easter Sunday. Meanwhile, both Man City and Arsenal lost ground in their rather uneventful 0-0 draw at the Etihad.
Arsenal currently sits in second place with 65 points, trailing Liverpool by two points, while Man City is one point behind Mikel Arteta’s team in third place.
Opta’s supercomputer has conducted 10,000 simulations of the remaining matches, and it now gives Liverpool a 47.7 percent chance of winning the title. This represents a significant increase of 12.4 percent following their triumph over Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls, with nine matches still to be played.
Pep Guardiola’s City remains the second favorite, although their chances have decreased from 45.9 percent to 33.5 percent after their draw with Arsenal.
Arsenal remains in third place, with their chances unchanged at 18.8 percent following their draw with Man City.
It is not only the Super Computer that believes Liverpool will emerge as champions at the end of the season.
