Manchester United and Manchester City seemingly both have an interest in the potential transfer of Benfica midfield wonderkid Joao Neves, according to Fabrizio Romano.
In his Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside, Romano revealed that Benfica are determined to keep Neves this summer. The Portuguese club will only let him go if his €120million release clause is met.
Man Utd might need a top young midfielder this summer as Casemiro’s future is uncertain. Romano said that some Saudi Pro League clubs are interested in him, but no negotiations or offers have been made yet.
Neves is a great talent, so it’s understandable that United and City have watched him several times. However, it’s doubtful that anyone can afford the 19-year-old at such a high price.
Romano gives an update on Neves’ transfer situation
Romano discussed the possibility of United signing Neves, a Benfica prodigy, in the summer. He said that both Manchester clubs had scouted the midfielder, but no one had made a move yet.
“Benfica will insist on the release clause of €120m being triggered, so it’s not an easy deal, but the interest from Premier League clubs is there in terms of scouting. So far, no club has approached Benfica to start a negotiation yet, so it remains absolutely open.”
This Portuguese wonderkid has attracted the attention of both Manchester clubs, but the transfer news expert suggests that other top teams could also enter the race. It will be fascinating to see how this situation unfolds.
In terms of potential outgoings, Romano had this to say on Casemiro: “Casemiro’s situation looks like it could be one to watch in the summer because the interest from Saudi is still there.”
