Tim Sherwood, a former coach at Tottenham and Aston Villa, has advocated for the recruitment of Roberto De Zerbi by Manchester United for the forthcoming season.
Italian coach De Zerbi has garnered attention as a viable contender for managerial positions at prominent clubs such as Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona in the upcoming summer. However, Sherwood, a former English midfielder and erstwhile coach at Tottenham and Aston Villa, opines that Manchester United should also consider the former Sassuolo boss for the position.
“De Zerbi is one of my favourite managers,” the 55-year-old told TalkSport as quoted by OneFootball.
“He looks like he can be an absolute nuisance.
“That’s the biggest compliment I can give him because De Zerbi looks like he could drive me potty. He would want this and he would want that. That’s why people would be scared of him. But I think he is top draw.
“The style of play and the structure. Brighton are brilliant. It won’t mind them, they will just get the next one in, like they do with their players.
“I think the state with Man United, at the moment, I don’t see ten Hag staying, I really don’t. I think De Zerbi would be an absolute dream manager for them.”
In September 2022, Brighton appointed De Zerbi as the successor to Graham Potter, under whose leadership the Seagulls achieved their inaugural qualification for a European competition in the previous season.
In the upcoming week, De Zerbi is scheduled to encounter his acquaintance, Daniele De Rossi, on the sidelines during the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
Despite speculations suggesting De Zerbi’s potential departure from Brighton in the forthcoming summer, club director Paul Barber has expressed assurance in the continuity of the Italian tactician’s tenure at the helm of the team for the 2024-25 season.
