Jarrad Branthwaite, who has impressed with his performances this season, might leave Everton at the end of the season. The Toffees seem to have accepted this possibility, as they face competition from Chelsea and other Premier League clubs for the defender.
Everton are reportedly looking at Jacob Greaves from Hull City as a potential replacement for Branthwaite, according to the Daily Mirror. The same source claims that Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in Branthwaite, while the Daily Mail reported in January that Chelsea were planning a summer move for the centre-back. Branthwaite has been a key player for Everton this season, appearing in 30 matches in all competitions.
Branthwaite has undoubtedly shown himself to be one of the best young defenders in the Premier League this season, so it is not surprising that many teams are lining up for the Everton star.
However, Sean Dyche would not want to lose the 21-year-old without a suitable replacement. Jacob Greaves of Hull City could be an option for the Toffees, given his excellent season for the Championship side.
Chelsea have a strong squad, but they also have some problems in the heart of their defence. Two of their best centre-backs, Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana, have been plagued by serious injuries that have kept them out of action for long periods. Moreover, their veteran leader Thiago Silva is in the final year of his contract and there is no sign that he will extend his stay at Stamford Bridge. Therefore, Chelsea need to find a quality and reliable central defender in the summer transfer window to address these issues and strengthen their backline.
