FC Barcelona’s sports strategy extends beyond the upcoming season, as they have set their sights on a grand ambition for the summer of 2025: Erling Haaland. In a recent interview with Mundo Deportivo, President Joan Laporta revealed that the plan is to make minimal additions for the 2024-25 season, while keeping the core of the current team intact.
The objective is to refrain from selling any players, as long as the financial targets are achieved by June 30, and to foster the growth of emerging young talents. It is worth noting that Robert Lewandowski is not currently a priority target, as he is satisfied at Barça and has rejected a lucrative salary offer from Saudi football.
The club maintains unwavering faith in Lewandowski’s skills and professionalism, even as he approaches the age of 36 on August 21.
Looking forward to the 2025-26 season, if Lewandowski fulfills his contract by participating in half of the 2024-25 games, Barça is of the opinion that they will need to invest in a top-quality goal scorer. As Lewandowski will be approaching 37 years old at that time, concerns arise regarding his performance.
Despite the ongoing development of young talents like Vitor Roque (19) and Marc Guiu (17), there is a general agreement that Barça will require another global superstar, coinciding with the financial recovery once the new Spotify Camp Nou generates more revenue.
According to reports, Barça has set their sights on Erling Haaland as their desired player. With Kylian Mbappé likely to join Real Madrid, Barça is concentrating on securing the talented Norwegian, who will turn 24 years old on July 21 and possesses a promising future.
The Manchester City forward is currently under contract until 2027, and the reigning European champions are eager to extend his stay despite interest from other clubs. Although Real Madrid is also interested in Haaland, a transfer this summer seems unlikely due to a release clause below 200 million euros. While Barça may not be able to afford it at present, they may be able to in the near future.
