Roma icon Giuseppe Giannini asserts that Paulo Dybala stands as the most gifted player in Roma’s history subsequent to Francesco Totti. The erstwhile Italian midfielder, renowned for his 75 goals in 437 appearances for Roma spanning from 1981 to 1996, expounded on the Argentine forward in an interview with the esteemed publication, Il Messaggero.
Dybala, affectionately known as La Joya, recently delivered a triumphant hat-trick in Roma’s 3-2 victory against Torino, thereby establishing himself as arguably the most influential player for the Giallorossi this season. When queried regarding Dybala’s standing among Roma’s elite talents subsequent to the illustrious Totti, Giannini affirmed, “Indeed, in terms of both caliber and ingenuity, he ranks amongst the finest, if not the finest, subsequent to Francesco.”
Having joined Roma from Juventus on a complimentary transfer in 2022, Dybala has notched an impressive tally of 30 goals in 63 appearances for the Giallorossi. His tenure at the Stadio Olimpico is set to conclude in June 2025, though discussions pertaining to his future with the club are yet to be initiated by Roma’s management.
“Absence of Dybala noticeably diminishes Roma’s threat in the vicinity of the adversary’s penalty area,” remarked Giannini, a former captain of Roma.
Giannini further attested, “In terms of sheer elegance, only Modric can be regarded at a comparable echelon. Such caliber is a rarity, with only one or two players at most.”
During the 2023-24 campaign, Dybala has impressively amassed 12 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions for Roma.
