Former Atletico Madrid centre-back Diego Godin has come out of retirement and signed for Uruguayan side Porongos.
The 38-year-old left Velez Sarsfield at the end of the 2023 campaign but has answered Porongos’ call on a short-term deal. The club he has played for:
- Atlético Madrid: Godín spent nine seasons with Atlético Madrid (2010-2018), becoming a club legend. He captained them to their first ever La Liga title in 2014, adding another league title in 2018. He also lifted the Copa del Rey twice (2013, 2014) and the Europa League twice (2012, 2018).
- Villarreal CF: After leaving Atlético Madrid, Godín joined Villarreal CF in 2018 and spent three seasons there, helping them reach the Europa League Final in 2021.
- Inter Milan: In 2021, Godín moved to Inter Milan, winning the Serie A title in his first season.
- Other Clubs: He also played for Club Nacional de Football in Uruguay (2006-2007) and Villarreal CF (2007-2010) earlier in his career.

Godin was a part of Uruguay’s Copa America winning in 2011, and reached the 2010 World Cup semi-finals. He also a most-capped player having featured 161 times for his country during his career.
