Paris St-Germain took a significant step towards securing the Ligue 1 title with a commanding victory, courtesy of Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe’s impressive performances.
However, their celebrations will have to be put on hold as Monaco managed to defeat Lille in a later match, prolonging PSG’s wait for confirmation of their third consecutive title.
Dembele opened the scoring in the 19th minute, followed by Mbappe’s clever flick just three minutes later. The duo continued to shine as Mbappe assisted Dembele for his second goal, displaying exceptional skill by nutmegging Nathaniel Adjei before crossing the ball into the box.
Mbappe then sealed his own brace in stoppage time. Notably, Mbappe’s strikes made him the first French player to achieve the remarkable feat of scoring 25 goals in four consecutive seasons in one of Europe’s top five leagues. Lorient managed to find a consolation goal through Bamba Dieng’s header, connecting with Benjamin Mendy’s precise cross in the second half.
Although PSG had the opportunity to secure the title on the same day, Monaco’s victory in the later fixture delayed their celebrations. PSG now has the chance to claim their 12th Ligue 1 title in front of their home fans against Le Havre on Saturday.
