Antoine Semenyo netted the solitary goal as Bournemouth triumphed over Wolves at Molineux, propelling themselves into the upper half of the Premier League standings despite being reduced to 10 men following Milos Kerkez’s dismissal.
Semenyo, making his return to the starting lineup, opened the scoring by calmly slotting the ball home from close range after Wolves failed to clear their lines. This goal took his tally for the season to eight.
Bournemouth’s positive approach from the beginning of the match was duly rewarded, as they created numerous opportunities throughout the game. Dominic Solanke, Alex Scott, Kerkez, and Justin Kluivert all tested Wolves’ goalkeeper Jose Sa, who put in an admirable performance under constant pressure.
Although the Cherries were wasteful in front of goal, it seemed as though their profligacy would not be punished when Hwang Hee-chan appeared to equalize in the second half. However, the goal was disallowed after the video assistant referee (VAR) intervened and Stuart Attwell, the on-field official, reviewed the pitchside monitor and identified a foul in the build-up involving Matheus Cunha and Kluivert.
Following this incident, the game resumed its original flow, with Bournemouth persistently probing but failing to find success in the final third. Their task became even more challenging when Kerkez was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Matt Doherty, reducing them to 10 men for the final 10 minutes of regulation time.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Andoni Iraola’s side held on during the closing stages, including 12 minutes of stoppage time, securing a victory that elevates them to 10th place in the league table. They now sit two points behind eighth-placed West Ham, while Wolves drop to 12th position.
