Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi has emerged as a highly sought-after figure as the Premier League season nears its conclusion.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for De Zerbi as a backup plan if their pursuit of Xabi Alonso falls through, while Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has expressed admiration for the Italian manager and his tactical approach. The latest club to enter the fray are Chelsea.
Mauricio Pochettino’s inaugural season at Stamford Bridge has been largely disappointing, with the team struggling in the Premier League despite significant investment. With owner Todd Boehly known for his willingness to make managerial changes, speculation suggests that Pochettino’s tenure may be in jeopardy.
Given Boehly’s successful recruitment track record, there are reports linking him with a move for De Zerbi. If the Italian were to join Chelsea, he would already be familiar with some members of the squad.
Moises Caicedo previously worked under De Zerbi at Brighton before making the switch to Chelsea, but it is another player whom the former Shakhtar Donetsk manager shares a particularly close bond with. De Zerbi has spoken openly about his special relationship with Mykhailo Mudryk, describing him as being like a son to him and his staff.
“I hope he stays on the bench and doesn’t play but I love him. We hope the best for him… from the next game.
“For any young player it is more difficult to adapt to another country and another style of football. Chelsea have many big players and I think it is a normal situation for him, he has to adapt and to understand his life has changed but I think he is good, smart guy. He can become a top, top player.”
