Lecce coach Roberto D’Aversa remains resolute ahead of their encounter against Inter Milan, a team that has maintained an impeccable record in 2024, winning every competitive match.
Scheduled for Sunday at 17:00 GMT at the Stadio Via del Mare, the fixture poses a daunting challenge for Lecce. Inter, currently leading Serie A with a nine-point margin and a game in hand, recently secured a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16.
Acknowledging the daunting task ahead, D’Aversa emphasized in his press conference, “Inter are coming off nine consecutive victories, their statistics in 2024 are impressive, so it might seem impossible for us to get a result, but I believe nothing is impossible in football.”
Despite the odds, D’Aversa highlighted some positive aspects, particularly Lecce’s home advantage. He stressed the importance of causing problems for Inter, especially considering their recent Champions League fixture.
However, Lecce faces challenges with suspensions and injuries. Patrick Dorgu and Marin Pongracic are suspended, while Federico Brancolini, Jeppe Corfitzen, and Kastriot Dermaku are sidelined with injuries.
Inter, too, has injury concerns, with Yann Sommer experiencing flu symptoms and Marcus Thuram, Francesco Acerbi, and Juan Cuadrado sidelined.
D’Aversa expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness, stating, “Federico Baschirotto is fit and should start tomorrow, I have two possibilities to choose from on who will be next to him. Pierotti is improving and needs time to settle, while Lameck Banda has recovered and we’ll see if he can start tomorrow.”
