Residents of Dani Alves’ hometown took action to express their disapproval of the footballer’s actions by wrapping his statue in duct tape and bin bags, demanding its removal. This comes after Alves was convicted of rape and sentenced to more than four years in prison for assaulting a woman in a Spanish nightclub.
After the court delivered its verdict, which included a compensation order of £130,000 (150,000 euros) to the victim and a prison sentence of four and a half years for Dani Alves, the Brazilian footballer, steadfastly denying the allegations, expressed intentions to appeal the ruling.
In response, residents of his hometown, Juazeiro, located in the state of Bahia, took a symbolic stance by enveloping his statue in bin bags and duct tape. This act symbolizes their dissatisfaction with the situation and serves as a call for the removal of the statue amidst the controversy surrounding Alves’ conviction.
According to Marca, a local wrote on social media: “It’s about time to vandalise the statue of Dani Alves on the outskirts of Juazeiro, right?
“It has gotten embarrassing.”
