According to reports, Dani Alves, the disgraced full-back, has allegedly refunded the €150,000 legal defense assistance he had previously received from Neymar Jr.’s father.
After being granted bail and released from prison, the former Brazil and Barcelona defender promptly repaid the money to Neymar’s father. Ines Guardiola, Alves’ lawyer, confirmed this development to the French news agency AFP. ESPN also reported on the matter.
Alves was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman at a Barcelona nightclub in February 2022.
The Brazilian footballer received a four-and-a-half year prison term for his actions, however, he was released from jail last week after posting a €1 million ($1.08m) bail while awaiting the outcome of his appeal. Initially, there were reports that Neymar Sr. would cover the entire bail amount of €1 million, but this assertion was refuted by the 59-year-old.
Alves’ ability to cover the exorbitant bail sum has been attributed to a Brazilian publication, which reached an agreement with him to acquire the rights to his life narrative.
During his release on bail, Alves is said to have reconciled with his estranged spouse, who had departed from him following his initial apprehension. Furthermore, he hosted a lavish celebration at his residence on the evening of his liberation from incarceration.
El Pais has stated that the legal process has significantly impacted Alves’ finances, potentially leading him to consider a return to football should his appeal be successful.
