Rafael Leao has firmly rejected the possibility of joining Chelsea during the upcoming summer transfer window, affirming his unwavering commitment to AC Milan. Despite Chelsea’s reported interest in him last summer, Leao, who showcased remarkable form by scoring 16 goals across various competitions, insists on remaining loyal to Milan.
Previously instrumental in Milan’s Serie A title victory a year ago, Leao garnered attention from clubs across Europe, with Chelsea identified as one of the prominent suitors seeking to fill the void left by Romelu Lukaku. However, a transfer failed to materialize, and Leao continued his tenure in Italy.
While Chelsea remains interested in acquiring Leao, it would necessitate meeting his £149 million release clause. Yet, Leao appears resolute in his stance, expressing contentment with life in Milan and dismissing any contemplation of a move to Stamford Bridge.
In an interview with Corriere della Sera, Leao emphasized his deep affinity for Milan, citing the city’s familiarity akin to his homeland of Portugal. He underscored his gratitude towards Milan for supporting him during challenging times and reiterated his commitment to the club for the remaining four years of his contract.
Despite scoring only four league goals for Milan this season, Leao remains undeterred, emphasizing his passion for the game’s magic and joy over statistical achievements. He expressed disdain for the emphasis on numbers in modern football, asserting his belief in the importance of entertainment and aesthetics in the sport. Leao acknowledged the role of criticism in motivating him, provided it is constructive, and affirmed his confidence in his abilities to achieve success.
