Chelsea is reportedly contemplating a potential move for Athletico Paranaense goalkeeper Bento, who has attracted interest from various clubs in England and Europe.
Bento has swiftly ascended to the position of Athletico’s primary goalkeeper since 2022 and recently made a strong impression on the international stage after debuting for Brazil.
The 25-year-old went up against England in his first international friendly earlier this month, receiving his debut due to injuries to both Alisson Becker and Ederson. He managed to keep a clean sheet against the Three Lions, a feat that has garnered attention from scouts throughout Europe.
Chelsea may be interested in acquiring Bento to address their current goalkeeper situation. Despite utilizing Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic this season, the Blues are in search of a more dependable permanent number one to bolster their defense.
As per Globo Esporte in Brazil, Inter and Benfica are also monitoring Bento, with Premier League clubs Nottingham Forest and Wolves displaying interest as well.
Following his debut for Brazil, the goalkeeper’s value has significantly increased, and Athletico will demand a substantial fee for his transfer. They turned down a £12.5m bid from an undisclosed club in January and are aiming for a higher price.
Bento’s appeal extends to clubs in mainland Europe, with his possession of an Italian passport facilitating a smoother transfer process. Additionally, he is well-positioned to potentially become Brazil’s new first-choice goalkeeper in the future.
Bento delivered a composed performance at Wembley and again against Spain. While he conceded three goals against the latter, two were penalties. In the 2024 Parana state championship, Bento has only let in six goals across 11 appearances, securing five clean sheets.
