Fabio Capello has underscored Juventus’s deficiency in quality and contends that the Bianconeri will require a minimum of four ‘top-class’ acquisitions during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The recent performance of Juventus has been lackluster, with only seven points garnered from the last eight matches, positioning them third in the Serie A table, trailing Milan by three points and Inter by 17.
In the aftermath of recent setbacks, much of the blame has been directed towards Massimiliano Allegri by both fans and media. Allegri’s demeanor during a post-match interview with Sky Sport Italia on Sunday indicated signs of irritation.
However, Fabio Capello, former coach of the Italian national team, has expressed a nuanced perspective, suggesting that Allegri should not bear sole responsibility for Juventus’s recent downturn in form.
Capello remarked to Gazzetta, “First and foremost, it must be acknowledged that Allegri achieved commendable results up until the Derby d’Italia, maintaining Juventus’s proximity to Inter. The disparity in quality between the two sides is palpable, and even Milan, currently occupying second place, presents a more formidable challenge than the Bianconeri.”
“The encounter with Inter served as a stark reminder to Juventus players of the disparity between the two teams, precipitating a decline in adrenaline and concentration, thus resulting in this adverse period,” Capello elaborated.
Addressing inquiries regarding Allegri’s tactical choices, particularly his preference for a 3-5-2 formation over an attacking trident, Capello countered, “The issue does not lie in the trident.”
“Allegri lacks players of the caliber of Vinicius or Mbappé to deploy three forwards,” Capello asserted. “While Chiesa poses a threat when deployed wide, his effectiveness diminishes when positioned centrally, making him easier to mark. The options available to Allegri for an attacking trident featuring Chiesa and Vlahovic are limited. While Yildiz exhibits promise, he is still in the nascent stages of his career. Kean is in the process of recuperating from injury. Cambiaso might be the only viable candidate for the right flank, but Allegri’s commitment to the 3-5-2 formation stems from a belief in its structural balance. No coach willingly undermines their team’s stability.”
Capello reveals Juventus’ main problem
Inter Milan and AC Milan have outperformed Juventus in terms of generating goal-scoring opportunities this season, with their offensive strategies proving significantly more effective.
According to Capello, the variance in performance can be attributed to the superior quality of Inter’s central midfield and the versatility of Milan’s left flank, notably Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao. He further highlights the pivotal role of Adrien Rabiot at Juventus, emphasizing the team’s struggles coinciding with his absence or lack of fitness.
Regarding potential summer signings, Capello suggests a minimum of four acquisitions of exceptional quality. He emphasizes the necessity for alignment between the club’s management and the coach in selecting these players, underscoring the importance of the coach’s input in transfer decisions.
In light of recent remarks by Giovanni Galeone proposing Allegri’s suitability for managerial roles at clubs like Manchester or Liverpool, Capello echoes the sentiment, endorsing the idea of Allegri broadening his horizons by coaching abroad. He expresses confidence in Allegri’s tactical acumen and predicts success for him in the English footballing landscape.
