The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed the absence of credible evidence regarding the alleged remarks attributed to Bellingham towards Greenwood, despite the deployment of expert lip-reading analysts for examination. Consequently, the case has been dismissed, with no penalties imposed on the former Dortmund star.
Greenwood himself is purportedly disinclined to escalate the matter as he seeks to rebuild his career in Spain. Meanwhile, Real Madrid expressed surprise as La Liga took a stern stance, prompting the RFEF to intervene following Getafe’s complaint.
Earlier, there were rumors that Bellingham could face a 10-match ban following the incident involving Greenwood captured on camera during Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Getafe in the 22nd round of La Liga on February 2nd. Television footage depicted Bellingham muttering something after a vigorous challenge with Greenwood along the touchline.
Subsequently, the video clip circulated on social media, with many fans alleging that Bellingham made derogatory remarks towards the striker on loan from Manchester United. Specifically, Bellingham was accused of labeling Greenwood as a “rapist.”
Greenwood had previously faced allegations of attempted rape, coercive behavior, and causing bodily harm in 2022. However, these accusations were dismissed by the Crown Prosecution Service (UK) in February 2023.
