Bayern Munich has purportedly scheduled renewed contract negotiations for Alphonso Davies, a player reportedly targeted by Real Madrid. Davies, operating as a left-back, currently has less than 18 months remaining on his contract with Bayern Munich, and there appears to have been minimal progress in contract discussions between the player and the club.
Consequently, there has been significant speculation regarding Davies’s future, with Real Madrid emerging as the primary contenders to secure his services. Reports suggested that Davies had potentially reached a verbal agreement to join the Spanish club either in the upcoming summer transfer window or in 2025.
However, Davies’s agent, Nedal Househ, has clarified that there is presently no formal agreement in place with Real Madrid or any other club expressing interest. According to information provided by journalist Florian Plettenburg, Bayern Munich intends to make a renewed effort to extend Davies’s contract.
The report indicates that Bayern is preparing an offer of €11 million (£9.4 million) to €13 million (£11.1 million) annually, which would entail an extension of his contract until the summer of 2029. However, it is understood that this proposal falls short of Davies’s financial expectations, with the player reportedly seeking as much as €20 million (£17.1 million) per year.
Should negotiations fail to progress within the next week, Bayern Munich is prepared to explore the possibility of selling Davies ahead of the 2024-25 season. With Davies’s contract set to expire in June 2025, Bayern views the forthcoming transfer window as the final opportunity to secure a substantial transfer fee for the Canadian international.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Davies, aged 23, has maintained a consistent presence in Thomas Tuchel’s squad this season, featuring in 30 matches across various competitions. Nevertheless, he has been limited to substitute appearances in the three matches following his return from a four-game injury absence.
Davies will be aiming to regain his starting position for Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga away fixture against bottom-placed Darmstadt on Saturday.
