Barcelona has now set their sights on Alexander Isak, alongside Arsenal, amidst the uncertainty surrounding the future of the Newcastle striker. According to SunSport, the Spanish club considers the Swedish forward as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski in the long term.
With Newcastle possibly needing to balance their finances to comply with FFP and PSR regulations, Barcelona may have an opportunity to secure a deal for Isak, who is valued at around £90m.
A source revealed, “Isak is gaining recognition as one of the top strikers in Europe, and Barcelona has been monitoring him since last Christmas. They view him as a player capable of leading their attack for the next few years and achieving significant success.”
The club experienced a disappointing week, being eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern and falling behind in the title race after a defeat to Aston Villa.
However, they managed to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday. If they defeat Chelsea tomorrow, they could widen their lead over City to four points, as Manchester City’s next match is scheduled for Thursday.
Despite Cityzens having two games in hand, Arsenal is still in the running for the title. In light of potentially falling short in the title race for two consecutive seasons, acquiring a striker is considered a top priority for the club, with Isak being one of the leading candidates.
Arsenal had closely monitored him before his transfer to St James’ Park in August 2022 for an initial fee of £63m.
