Bayern Munich’s midfielder, Joshua Kimmich, previously lauded as one of the premier talents globally just a year ago, has encountered a shift in his circumstances. Recent months have seen Thomas Tuchel, the team’s coach, reassign him to the right-back position. Kimmich’s contract is set to expire in 2025, raising the possibility of his departure this summer.
The management of Bayern Munich is poised to commence negotiations regarding a contract extension with Kimmich in the forthcoming weeks. However, failing to reach a mutual agreement might prompt the club to seek compensation for his transfer. According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky DE, the 29-year-old midfielder is receptive to the prospect of moving to other clubs and has engaged in discussions with them.
Nonetheless, Kimmich has stipulated a selective list of potential destinations. Only five clubs—Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City—have been identified as acceptable options for him to depart Bayern Munich. Notably absent from this list are Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Manchester United.
Previously, Kimmich has been regarded in Barcelona as a potential successor to Sergio Busquets, albeit the financial feasibility of such a transfer has always posed a challenge. This scenario is anticipated to persist, contingent upon Bayern Munich’s transfer demands. Real Madrid, on the other hand, is deemed unlikely to pursue Kimmich, given their already well-equipped midfield roster. Moreover, his acquisition could potentially impede the progress of younger talents within their ranks.
