Unai Emery, the head coach of Aston Villa, has signed a contract extension with the club that will keep him there until 2027, as reported by David Ornstein. Emery, who is 52 years old, made the move from Villarreal to the Premier League club in November 2022.
He has overseen 77 matches, with 50 of them taking place this season as the Villans advance to the semi-final of the Europa Conference League, where they are set to clash against Olympiacos.
They are considered the top contenders to win the tournament and are currently positioned fourth in the Premier League, making Champions League qualification a real possibility.
Despite rumors linking Emery to Liverpool and Bayern Munich recently, it appears that he is not interested in joining the Bundesliga giants or replacing Jurgen Norbert Klopp.
As per The Athletic correspondent Ornstein, the Spaniard has agreed to a new three-year deal at Villa Park.
By choosing to ‘commit his future’ to the Midlands club, Emery has effectively put an end to any speculation.
Villa’s owners, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, have high ambitions for the club, believing that Emery can reach the same level of success as Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson.
Emery’s current contract is due to end in 2026, but has been extended for an additional year. Villa plans to hold discussions with him at the conclusion of the season to potentially secure a longer agreement.
Emery has an impressive track record as Villa’s manager, being the first in the club’s history to achieve a win percentage exceeding 50% (57.1%).
Following a seventh-place finish last season, Villa has made significant progress this season and is on track to secure a fourth-place finish, potentially qualifying for the Champions League for the first time.
With a six-point lead over fifth-placed Tottenham, who have two games in hand, Villa is effectively managing their demanding Thursday-Sunday match schedule.
Villa is scheduled to face Chelsea on Saturday evening, with the opportunity to extend their lead over Spurs to nine points, as Tottenham faces Arsenal on Sunday.
