Alejandro Garnacho, Manchester United’s young sensation, has reportedly made his feelings known about a potential switch to Real Madrid. Despite rumors of Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, planning to discuss Garnacho’s transfer during his visit to Manchester for the Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City, the player seems to have other plans.
Garnacho, a native of Madrid and a former player for Atletico Madrid’s youth squad, moved to Manchester United in 2020. While Perez is hopeful about bringing the Argentine prodigy back to his hometown, sports journalist Gaston Edul suggests that Garnacho is not interested in joining Real Madrid at this stage of his career.
Nonetheless, it’s said that Garnacho harbors a long-term aspiration to don the Real Madrid jersey before hanging up his boots. The 19-year-old forward has been a revelation at Old Trafford, especially under Erik ten Hag’s management. This season, he’s netted five goals in 28 Premier League appearances, including a memorable bicycle kick against Everton. Recently, Garnacho has been showcasing his versatility by playing on the right wing, after spending the previous season on the left. His development and clear stance on his future have caught the attention of football enthusiasts worldwide.
Revealing the reason for that particular change, Ten Hag told Sky Sports in December: “It is not only about the wingers. You always want the full-backs there.
“But we have often had to make compromises over the first half of the season. Diogo Dalot is right-footed on the left side. It can work very good but it is not always beneficial for your strikers.
“With Garnacho on the right, you get a right-footer, a different type of player who can go inside but also go outside. We want those dynamics with swapping positions, combinations, getting in behind, bringing it out of the triangles and, from there, serving our strikers.”
