According to a report by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Rafael Leao exchanged shirts with Viktor Gyokeres following the Portugal-Sweden match on Thursday, indicating a positive relationship between the Milan star and one of the Rossoneri’s transfer targets for the upcoming summer.
Scoring a goal in Portugal’s 5-2 victory over Sweden, Leao apparently hinted at a potential transfer to Milan after the match concluded. As detailed in Monday’s printed edition of the newspaper, Leao approached the Swedish striker for a shirt exchange at the conclusion of the game.
During a post-match interview, Gyokeres praised the Rossoneri star, stating, “He is a fantastic player and I admire his work. He told me I had played well and I replied that he hadn’t been bad at all.”
Leao’s gesture of swapping shirts with Gyokeres serves as further evidence of mutual respect between the two players. Additionally, they already engage with each other on Instagram. Milan director Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who serves as a mentor to Leao at the Stadio Meazza, could potentially influence Gyokeres to consider joining the Rossoneri during the summer transfer window.
La Gazzetta reports that Gyokeres has a release clause of €100 million in his contract with Sporting CP. However, Milan is hopeful that negotiations could begin from a starting point of €50 million.
At 25 years old, Gyokeres has exhibited outstanding form for his club this season, tallying 36 goals in 39 appearances across various competitions.
