Francesco Acerbi purportedly convened with directors of Inter this evening, once more refuting allegations of uttering racially discriminatory remarks against Napoli defender Juan Jesus.
The interaction between them was captured on camera while conversing with the referee during the 1-1 draw at San Siro on Sunday. During this exchange, Juan Jesus brought to the official’s attention that he had been subjected to racial abuse.
Subsequently addressing the matter with DAZN, Juan Jesus indicated that Acerbi had offered an “apology” for crossing boundaries. However, Acerbi’s expulsion from the Italy squad over the incident, coupled with his denial of making any racist remarks to reporters, incited a vehement response from the Brazilian on Instagram.
According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Acerbi convened with Inter directors today, reiterating his steadfast denial of ever engaging in racist discourse directed towards Juan Jesus.
Acerbi is scheduled to provide his account of the events to FIGC prosecutor Giuseppe Chiné tomorrow via videoconference.
Additionally, Juan Jesus and the referee are slated to provide their testimonies to the prosecutor, who has initiated supplementary investigations subsequent to receiving the standard referee’s report.
Should Acerbi be found culpable of racial misconduct, he could potentially incur a 10-match ban from Serie A.
