Midfielder Scott McTominay of Manchester United (MU) is facing the risk of losing nearly one million pounds after investing in the failed business of his girlfriend’s father, Cameron Reading.
Fortress Capital Partners, managed by Cameron Reading and her father, Ashley Reading, went bankrupt last year. The £18 million debt left 230 people empty-handed. According to reports from the UK press, Fortress Capital Partners raised funds from investors, including Boyzone member Shane Lynch, and then lent them out at high interest rates. The Readings also invested millions of pounds in luxury properties in the UK, Dubai, and Spain.
Due to his affection for Cam Reading and concern for the financial difficulties of his future in-laws, midfielder Scott McTominay lent one million pounds to his girlfriend’s father’s company to purchase real estate in Portugal. However, now the MU star can only recover £100,000 as the company has gone bankrupt.
Meanwhile, McTominay’s girlfriend, despite owing the company £1.2 million, frequently shares about her lavish lifestyle on social media, causing frustration among investors. One victim who lost thousands of pounds shared with The Sun: “There’s a picture of Cam holding a glass of wine and kissing Scott McTominay in the Claridge hotel lounge. It really rubs salt into our wounds, us who’ve lost all our life savings or are about to lose our homes. Another photo shows Ashley, Cam, and her sister still enjoying a wealthy lifestyle as if nothing happened. There are times they spend months in Dubai. I really don’t understand how they can do that.”
Sources from The Sun revealed that the MU star’s girlfriend had to sell properties in Dubai and Spain to settle debts. Scott McTominay’s representative was contacted for comment on the matter but has not responded yet.
Midfielder Scott McTominay and beauty Cam Reading publicly shared photos together since last autumn. The girlfriend appeared in birthday celebration photos and family pictures of the MU star. Cam Reading has also attended matches to support her boyfriend. Scott McTominay’s career has flourished alongside his blossoming romance.
From being put on the transfer list in the summer of 2023, the 1996-born midfielder now holds a starting position at Old Trafford this season. The 27-year-old has often rescued coach Ten Hag by scoring goals in challenging matches. In the national team jersey, the MU midfielder has also performed successfully in the EURO 2024 qualifiers, significantly contributing to Scotland’s qualification for the finals to be held in Germany this summer.
On March 9th, the Scottish star started in the early match of the Premier League’s 28th round as MU defeated Everton 2-0 at home. The Red Devils remain in 6th place with 47 points, trailing Tottenham, who are 3 points ahead but have played 2 more matches.
