Dani Alves’s older brother has criticized the malicious spread of rumors about the former Barca star’s alleged suicide in prison. Responding to the information about Dani Alves’s alleged suicide in prison, Acaz Felleger, Dani Alves’s media advisor, stated that they are considering legal action against Paulo Albuquerque after he spread the false news of the former Barca star’s demise.
On social media platform X, Albuquerque self-identified as a football, beer, and beautiful women enthusiast. On March 9, Albuquerque made a shocking post on his personal page, which has 12,600 followers, stating, “The information I have just received is that Dani Alves has committed suicide.” In response to this shocking news, Dani Alves’s brother, Ney, expressed extreme anger. Ney’s response was broadcasted live on Instagram in a video message: “How can people be so cruel to each other? He has already been convicted, isn’t that enough? What’s insane is that there are those who want Dani to die. That’s just cruel.” “My father is over 70 years old. My mother is over 60. Do these rumor mongers not have families?” Felleger, a journalist and Dani Alves’s media representative, also dismissed the rumors of the former Brazilian international footballer’s suicide in prison. “The information posted on X has no basis whatsoever. I have spoken with Dani’s lawyer and the rumor monger must be held accountable under the law,” Felleger stated.
Dani Alves, aged 40, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison during a trial on February 22. The former Barcelona defender admitted guilt for sexually assaulting a woman in a nightclub in Barcelona on December 30, 2022. Alves had been in pretrial detention for over a year at Brians 2 prison before his trial. The sentence of four and a half years did not satisfy prosecutors, who argued that Alves deserved a nine-year sentence. Spanish prosecutors have also filed an appeal seeking a heavier sentence for the former Barca star. According to them, Alves’s payment of $150,000 in compensation cannot be considered as mitigating circumstances.
