According to the Sun, Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has agreed to a new contract that will increase his salary to around £100,000 per week.
The Japan international is recovering from an injury he sustained during the Asian Cup in January.
Tomiyasu has been sidelined since Arsenal’s defeat at Fulham on the last day of 2023, as he was hurt before and after that match, but he is close to making a comeback and his extension will be announced once he is fit again.
The 25-year-old could be part of the squad when the Gunners welcome Brentford on Saturday, so his new deal could be revealed soon.
Arsenal have given new contracts to Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, Bukayo Saka and Aaron Ramsdale in recent months, and Tomiyasu is the latest to benefit.
The club is also in talks with Ben White, while they want to offer Jorginho a new contract as his current one expires this summer.
Tomiyasu had played 20 games in all competitions this season before his injury problems returned, and having him back and secured for the future will be great news.
Arsenal are competing with Liverpool and Manchester City for the title, and they need all their players available for the final stretch of the Premier League.
They also hope to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League after losing 1-0 to FC Porto in the first leg of the last 16, and Tomiyasu could play in the second leg at Emirates Stadium next Tuesday.
His new contract should be confirmed by then and the ex-Bologna star will be eager to resume playing.
