Various types of weapons including clubs, golf clubs… have been seized by Spanish police prior to the match between Real Sociedad and PSG.
Hours before the commencement of the match, the San Sebastian police conducted searches on 20 vehicles and discovered an array of dangerous weapons believed to potentially be utilized in a large-scale brawl between supporters of the two clubs. Ertzaintza – the Basque law enforcement agency – identified 150 individuals who could engage in a confrontation with 100 French fans.
The confiscated weapons encompassed 15 golf clubs, a metal rod, three ice pick hammers, two pairs of metal finger spikes, a knife, two pocket knives, an extendable baton, several screwdrivers, a hammer, as well as two metal bars and several metal rods.
In an effort to preempt the scheduled altercation, Spanish law enforcement authorities also inspected the Paris fans’ bus and intercepted “prohibited hazardous items,” returning them to the French capital.
According to Ertzaintza, a group of approximately 2,000 PSG fans is anticipated to attend the Anoeta stadium, with around 700 individuals among them believed to be extremist elements. Notably, about 100 individuals are deemed dangerous.
The Mayor of San Sebastian, Eneko Goia, acknowledged alarming updates regarding the escalating police presence in the city and criticized the altercations instigated by certain fans. He stated, “The match is assessed to carry a high risk of altercation, necessitating stringent security measures, which we have long communicated.”
