Wolverhampton Wanderers’ winger Pedro Neto has encountered a series of unfortunate injuries in recent seasons, and he experienced another setback over the weekend. During his team’s match against Newcastle United, Neto was compelled to leave the field after just 45 minutes due to a hamstring issue. However, Gary O’Neil expressed optimism following the match, indicating that appropriate measures were taken to mitigate the risk of a severe injury.
“[Jose] Sa and Pedro [Neto] both off injured at half-time left us in the toughest position we’ve been in,” O’Neil admitted.
“Pedro has a tight hamstring and I don’t think there’s any injury there, it’s just tight. It was precautionary really.
“Pedro, with a tight hamstring, we had no choice to make sure he was off and safe, and make sure we had enough to go again on another day.”
Neto’s recent injury setback, a hamstring issue, sidelined the 23-year-old from late October until the end of December. Interestingly, this injury occurred during Wolves’ previous encounter against Newcastle United.
Despite O’Neil’s reassurance that Neto is unlikely to face another prolonged absence, this incident serves as a cautionary note for potential suitors eyeing the Portuguese international’s acquisition in the upcoming transfer window.
According to a report by David Ornstein for The Athletic, Arsenal is keen on bolstering their options in the wide attacking department this summer, with Neto being a target of interest. However, Ornstein suggests that Arsenal is hesitant to meet Wolves’ £80 million valuation for a player with a history of injury concerns.
Furthermore, competition for Neto’s signature is expected from prominent clubs such as Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite Neto’s commendable performance of three goals and 11 assists in 22 appearances for Wolves this season, Arsenal may explore alternative options given the persistent uncertainty surrounding his fitness.
