Leeds United and Leicester City are currently entangled in a potential breach of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, a situation that has raised concerns among both Premier League and Championship clubs.
According to reports from The Sun, Leicester City could be facing repercussions for a double breach of FFP regulations. One issue revolves around exceeding the Premier League’s £105 million limit on losses over a three-year period, while the other concerns the possibility of exceeding the £83 million combined losses allowed over the same timeframe, as stipulated by the English Football League (EFL).
Despite these alleged breaches, any resulting points deduction is not expected to impact Leicester’s imminent promotion to the Premier League. However, there is ambiguity surrounding which league is responsible for monitoring a club’s finances during a season in which they are either relegated from or promoted to, leading to delays in resolving the matter.
The report also suggests that Leeds United may have breached FFP rules as well. As both clubs vie for the top two spots in their respective leagues, securing promotion becomes even more significant as it could potentially help them avoid points deductions in the current season due to the confusion surrounding the rules.
With Leeds trailing Leicester by just five points in the race for promotion, the outcome of the season for both clubs and whether they will face punishment for the alleged breaches remains uncertain.
